Nutrition Month: Top Health Tips

March your way to better health this month by joining us in celebrating National Nutrition Month.

March your way to better health this month by joining us in celebrating National Nutrition Month. We are passionate about health and wellness because of all it has to offer your quality of life. When we have a handle on our health, everything else like mental, emotional and spiritual health flourishes. Are you ready to feel like the best version of yourself?

  1. The “Thing” About Fats

It’s old news that you should stay away from fats. The tricky part can be knowing which fats are healthy and which are not. Fats are important because they give the body energy, protect your organs and aid in cell growth. Focus on the healthy fats which are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These can be found in foods like: nuts, avocados, olive oil and fish.

  1. Everything in Moderation

Having a nutritional diet doesn’t mean you will never be able to have your favorite chips or candy bar again. It means eating well a majority of the time and allowing yourself indulgences every now and then. It means sustainability and longevity.

  1. Put Your Zs First

Sleep is so important to our overall health. When we are tired, we are more likely to make poor decisions with our nutrition and reach for the nearest food item we have with the least amount of work. Adults should be getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night.

  1. Don’t Overwork Yourself

Overworking yourself can lead to exhaustion, which can also lead to poor eating habits. Working a reasonable amount of hours or only working extremely long hours for short periods will do your body and mental health a huge favor. Having a well-balanced diet will help you to have the energy you need to get through those long days when they come.

  1. Take Active Breaks

After about ninety minutes of sitting, you should be getting up and walking around. The brain and body like to go into a state of lag after this amount of time. Go for a short walk or do some light stretching to help prepare yourself to focus on the next tasks at hand.

  1. Don’t Ignore the Fundamentals

Sometimes it’s tempting to jump on the newest fad or trendy diet. Don’t overcomplicate nutrition. It’s really as simple as including a variety of foods from each food group. These are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat dairy products, healthy fats and lean protein.

  1. Reduce Multi-tasking

Some like to gloat about how great they are with multi-tasking. But did you realize it can actually slow you down? Adding multi-tasking to anything increases the time to accomplish any one activity by 25 percent. This added time and stress may be setting yourself up for mindless eating of foods that are not wholesome.

  1. Water is the Wellspring

The body is mostly made up of water. It’s important to replenish it to ensure everything is working as it should, carrying nutrients throughout the body.

  1. Be On the Move Daily

Even if you wouldn’t consider yourself an athlete or workout enthusiast, you should be moving your body for at least thirty minutes each day in some way. Even going on two short fifteen minute walks is better than nothing. It will do wonders for your heart and your mind.

  1. Practice Gratefulness

Every day, remember to practice gratefulness. Express it to others or make a mental note for yourself. Maybe you’re grateful for your health, finances or a loved one. Whatever it may be, acknowledging gratefulness will go a long way to your happiness. When we are happy, we make better choices about how we spend our time and the food we consume.
